Burke shines in season debut

Game Recap: AutoMile Motors 5, Gongshow Hockey Club 1

AutoMile Motors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, skating to a convincing 5–1 win over Gongshow Hockey Club.

AutoMile dominated the opening period, striking four times in the first 15 minutes. Thatcher Creber opened the scoring midway through the frame, assisted by James Theberge. Moments later, Rob McCann doubled the lead with an unassisted tally. Theberge then took over the game, scoring twice before the period ended — once unassisted and once set up by Creber — giving AutoMile a commanding 4–0 lead after the first.

Gongshow Hockey Club found the back of the net early in the second period when Darren Casey-Covell scored to make it 4–1. Despite generating several quality chances and outshooting AutoMile 11–13 in the frame, Gongshow couldn’t solve AutoMile goaltender Bob Burke, who was stellar all night.

In the third, Steve Horn added an insurance goal at 8:51, with assists from Mike Dunne and Rob McCann, capping off the 5–1 victory for AutoMile Motors.

AutoMile outshot Gongshow 39–31. Bob Burke turned aside 30 shots for the win, earning First Star honors. James Theberge (2G, 1A) was named Second Star, while Rob McCann (1G, 1A) took Third Star.

Both teams played a clean game, with no penalties recorded.
